Forecast Lists, Concurrent Pre-Processing and Mailing List

We have updated the SARWeather production servers again. Most of the changes are under the hood and not visible to users, but allowed us to implement concurrent pre-processing and other such improvements in the future.

But let's look at the changes in more detail!

Forecast Periods, Time-Zones and More Sizes

We have updated the SARWeather production system again. The changes mostly have to do with the period covered by each forecast and the way time-zones are handled.

We also reverted a previous change which allowed more fine-grained selection of the forecast period, but unfortunately made pre-processing 3 times slower.

Lower prices and 1h granularity

We’ve just made a small update to the production servers, with two changes.

• We have lowered our prices. Or rather, the fixed costs for a forecast have gone up, but the per-hour cost has been reduced significantly. Forecasts over 3-10 hours, depending on type, will be cheaper than before.
• Forecasts are now run on the 1-hour boundaries requested. Previously, forecasts could only run on 3-hour boundaries, and we would expand the requested period to achieve this – of course without charging extra.

We will not be sending out an e-mail notifying of these changes.

Access Control, Database and Less Orange

We have just updated SARWeather again. This time, the changes were mostly related to:

• Giving more access to users who have not yet created an account
• A general re-design of the user interface, now featuring Less Orange(tm)
• Moving the back-end WOD Service to a data-base for forecast meta-data.

Free Time and Time Zone Bugs

We have just updated the SARWeather production servers again. This time we have made changes related to selecting forecast periods and corrected some time-zone bugs.

Nope, We're on Holiday.

There are no changes to SARWeather this time around, since the development team has spent the last couple of weeks extensively testing the use of SARWeather for sailing in the Adriatic.

Scaling Maps, Dynamic URLs, Mobile UI, Transparency, RabbitMQ

We have not updated SARWeather in the last two months, since we finally got the system fully operational. This does not mean that we have just been sitting here admiring our work, but rather that we could finally make some extensive changes which had not been allowed to delay the production deployment. We describe those changes very briefly below.
